A panel of Georgia lawmakers signed off Thursday on a plan to create a Confederate heritage month, even as legislative leaders reacted coolly to a push to apologize for the state's role in slavery.

It never ceases to amaze me that in the 402 years our nation's history since the founding of Jamestown, so many people are fixated on a 4 year portion of it. It goes to show how backwards and racist the south still is. I have ancestors who fought in the Revolution and the Civil War. I'm much prouder of those who fought in the Revolution. I have been approached by some in the Son's of Confederate Veterans to join but have found most of them to be among the most racist people I have ever seen. Why not an American Revolution month (why just 7/4) instead of Confederate month. The heritage of the South consists of much more than the 4 years of a rebellion brought on by white plantation owners. Heck, why not NASCAR month. Then we can show the rest of the nation just how many peckerwoods there still are in this state.
I think it's a disgrace and a form of treason that a flag that represents the Confederacy should still be allowed to fly. Those who fly the Confederate flag do so for fearmongering and as a reminder of the slavery that made millions of dollars for southern businessmen. It's sickening as an American, born and bred, that such a flag be allowed to fly. It isn't as if it's a flag from a foreign country.
The actions of Georgia legislators prove their racism. No one will ever convince me that the south will ever get it through their thick skulls that ALL men and women are created equal. There isn't one side of heaven for Big Daddy and Big Momma and another side for those they call "inferiors". Georgia needs to step into 2009 without their covert racism showing.
Hey...... it's part of history of our Nation.
Don't try to erase or dismiss it...Let it BE!!!
I realize it's not popular with some people & the black race of our nation!
But ....I also have observed black people don't seem to want their pain, suffering and progress removed from there side of any history teaching of that era!
It's passed down from one generation after another.
